Death










March 30th 1981 John Hinckley, Jr. shot Reagan along with his press secretary James Brady and 2 others. Although he missed Reagan’s heart by less than an inch it pierced his left lung. He coughed up blood and was hurried to the George Washington University Hospital where he was to get a surgery. Before his surgery took place he joked to the surgeons saying “I hope you’re all Republicans!” although they weren’t J. Giordano replied “today, Mr. President were all Republicans.”

On June 5th 2004 in California Reagan was found dead in his home at Bel Air. After his death Nancy Reagan revealed that President Ronald Reagan died after 10 years suffering the disease of Alzheimer. June 11th was declared National Day of Mourning by George W. Bush.

Election (second term)

















January 20th 1985 Reagan was re-elected for his second term. Due to the poor weather celebrations were held inside the Capitol. During his second term as presidency Reagan goal was to reforming the California's Welfare program. He says that he is "never questioned the need to take care of people who, through no fault of their own, cant provide for them selves." But at the same time Reagan is sick of the people who are well and healthy who are relying only on the government to do them good.
The numbers of people on welfare has quadrupled in just only ten years making over 2 million people on wellfare and depending on the government.

Foreign Policy and Affairs

The War on Drugs policy: when Reagan started his 2nd term in his presidency he declared the “War on Drugs” policy. He said that “drugs were menacing our society” and promised to get rid of drugs in schools and in the public. He also expanded drug treatments and strengthened the law enforcements on drugs. Later Reagan signed a “drug enforcement bill” which cost $1.7 billion.
Also Reagan pushed the NATO partners and increased defense expenditure and military readiness. Even Reagan’s great supporter, Margaret Thatcher, was shocked when he was going to sell grain to Russia.

Domestic Policies and Affairs

Ronald Reagan started a policy which reflected upon his belief which was individual freedom. He expanded the U.S. military and also contributed in ending the cold war. “Reagan Revolution” was named a term which will reduce people’s reliance upon the government. He then reversed the policy of détente (an easing of tensions between U.S.A and communists nations.)
Reagan was mad over the relationship between the Soviet’s and has claimed that he won the Cold War. Reagan’s legacy was a long economic boom which needed recovery of national self-confidence. Reagan seemed to be happy of what he has done in his 2 terms serving for the U.S.

Election


Election
Reagan’s governor career helped him develop in policies in his later career as the president. After being nominated by the Republicans Reagan chose George H.W. Bush to be his running mate. After being on a televised debate, this boosted his campaign up to a lot. He won the election receiving 50.7% of the popular vote. Reagan’s opponent was a liberal named John B. Anderson and Carter who was a representative of 6 states and Washington D.C.

Early career




In 1932 after graduating from Eureka Reagan drove down to Iowa, where he auditioned for a small town radio station. The University of Iowa hired him offering $10 per game to broadcast home football games. Then soon after he was offered a job at a radio station in Davenport earning $100 per month.
Travelling around with the Cubs a Chicago baseball team in 1937 he was signed a 7 year contract with the Warner Bros.
In 1934 he went to Los Angeles where he was an actor in a film called King’s Row this made him “STAR STATUS.” Then later he was a member of the American for Democrats and Action and United World Federalists. When Reagan was older and his acting career declining he became a paid speaker for the General Electric Corporation. In 1964 he made a televised speech supporting Barry Goldwater, who was the republican candidate for President.
1966 Reagan has defeated Pat Brown and became the Republican Governor of California
Reagan began as a liberal Democrat worked under Franklin D. Roosevelt. In the early 50’s he was the presidential candidate of Dwight D. Eisenhower and in 56 for Richard Nixon.

Education



In the late 20’s Reagan moved to Dixon and attended the Dixon High School. He had interests in acting, sports, and storytelling. Reagan’s first job was in 1926 where he became a life guard at the Rock River in Lowell Park. He saved 77 lives.
Reagan then attended the Eureka College, and was a part of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He majored in economics and sociology. He was a member of the football and track teams, also the basketball cheerleading squad and captain of the swim team.
